Lake Union Park

Lake Union Park…a vision.

Northwest Seaport’s historic vessels and museum ships are located at Historic Ships Wharf in Seattle’s Lake Union Park, just north of downtown. The tugboat Arthur Foss, Lightship No. 83, and fishing troller Twilight are docked at the north end of the Park and Museum of History and Industry (MOHAI).

Travel times from downtown Seattle: 5 minutes by car, 10 minutes by bicycle, 15 minutes by streetcar, and about 25 minutes on foot.

You may wish to check the Seattle Department of Transportation website for the latest updates on detour and construction information and allow extra time for your travel. Mercer Expansion project does impact our South Lake Union District.

Public Transportation

Lake Union Park is serviced by several mass transit options—the South Lake Union streetcar runs every 15 minutes from downtown and stops at the park, and several major bus lines, including the 8, 17, 26, 28, 70, and 71, have stops close to the park. Arrive by Seattle Mini Ferry Service and verify services before your trip.

Parking & Driving

Parking surrounding Lake Union Park is extremely limited. There are pay lots and limited street parking in the neighborhood and along Westlake Avenue N. Northwest Seaport is unable to validate or reimburse parking expenses for visitors or volunteers.

Driving From I5 (North and South):

  • Take Exit #167 (Mercer St/Seattle Center)
  • Go STRAIGHT on Mercer Street
  • Turn RIGHT onto Terry Avenue
  • Turn RIGHT onto Valley Street
  • Turn LEFT into Lake Union Park

From Aurora Ave Northbound (99 N):

  • After emerging from the tunnel between Bell St and Denny Way, turn RIGHT onto Harrison Street
  • Continue east 4 blocks to Westlake Ave N
  • Turn LEFT onto Westlake Ave N and continue north for three blocks
  • Turn RIGHT on to Valley Street
  • Turn LEFT into Lake Union Park

From Aurora Ave Southbound (99 S)

  • After crossing the Aurora Bridge, take the second exit labeled “Dexter Avenue North.” The off ramp will bring you to a yield sign. Turn RIGHT on Dexter Ave N and proceed south approximately one mile to Mercer Street
  • Turn LEFT at Mercer Street
  • Turn LEFT on to Terry Ave N
  • Turn RIGHT on to Valley Street
  • Turn LEFT into Lake Union Park
