37TH ANNUAL LAKE UNION WOODEN BOAT FESTIVAL

The Lake Union Wooden Boat Festival will be Thursday, July 4th, through Sunday, July 7th.

Visitors: Board historic tugboat Arthur Foss during the festival open hours.

Volunteers: Help Northwest Seaport keep tug open to the public as docents and hosts.  (10 – 1400; 1400 – 1800 shifts).  Complete Volunteer Form or Contact Form to indicate available times.

Register for Northwest Seaport’s annual July 4 on the Arthur Foss event!   Enjoy a spectacular view of the 4th of July fireworks, drinks and dessert from the deck of the historic tugboat Arthur Foss! $50.00 per person ; 8:30 PM to 11:00 PM July 4, 2013.

The 37th Lake Union Wooden Boat Festival kicks off this year on the 4th of July, and runs a full 4 days. The Wooden Boat Festival is designed to celebrate the maritime heritage of Seattle, and get people out on the water on historic wooden boats. This is an old-fashioned, down-home waterfront festival were everything is fun and almost everything is free.The 2013 Festival will include: visiting vessels, boat tours, free public boat rides on Lake Union, activities for kids including toy boat building and a scavenger hunt, craft and skill demonstrations, food vendors, and live music.   Lake Union Park will be open for families looking for somewhere to spread their blankets and watch the fireworks over Lake Union. (YES – THERE WILL BE FIREWORKS OVER LAKE UNION!). Contact The Center for Wooden Boats for registration details.

The all-woman band, Broadside and their counterparts, The Handsome Cabin Boys will be the chantey leaders for this special event aboard the Schooner Adventuress.  Among the leaders you will hear Trapper Graves, Carol Mesford, Felicia Dale, Steve Lalor, Kent Mesford, and William Pint.  July’s Chantey Sing will be on Friday, July 5th during the 2013 Wooden Boat Festival, in lieu of the regular chantey sing on the second Friday of the month.

This family-friendly event is led by a chantey-man (or woman), and you — the audience — sings the chorus or leads a song. The call-and-response form of these sea-going work songs makes them easy to learn and fun to sing.

That buccaneer scallywag Tugboat Bromberg will lead the August Chantey Sing aboard the tugboat Arthur Foss moored at the Historic Ships’ Wharf at South Lake Park. Tugboat Bromberg hails from that piratical port of Poulsbo and is best known for his gravely voice, his original songs, and dressing and living the characters of pirate, merchant seaman, and tugboat man.
